Message for Robin

My springer is very prone to having an infection in one ear. The other ear has been perfect. Even when she was a puppy. Using Aural is really good and cotton wool pads (smooth ones not the fluffy sort) . The last time this infection kept coming back so every other day we cleaned this ear and used the Aural and really kept on top of it... It took the two of us and quite a few treats to keep her still. She huffed and puffed a bit but I am sure she knew it was for her own good.

Finally it has gone......and kept away. So persevere but keep your eye on them......

good luck

Cynth

Hi there,
Firstly let me say that I have enjoyed viewing your gallery of Springers, it has helped me through
a difficult period having recently lost our boy Tapper to cancer.
He was 11years old and a rescue dog. Tapper was our second Springer, Poppy the first died of old age at 16years.
I would go down the rescue dog route again, but not quite yet as its too early.
Thank you for the great work you do and I'll hopefully be in touch for some advice and maybe a new friend or two!
Matt Appleby.

Lara,
I hope you make a speedy recovery. Great to hear that Ollie and his Brother are doing so well, and being looked after. Ollie is still very sorely missed by our family . A big regret having to let him go when we did. Great to hear from you all.

Darren

Charlie and Alfie24 May 2010 06:48 ^

Hi All
Just quick one to let you know that Charlie and Alfie have really settled in now. We did have a few teething problems on who is going to be the boss in the house, but we are slowly sorting it out, (although they do try!),
We have to keep Alfie on the lead in the park, because he just runs away and chases the ducks. There are two roads each side of the park, so we don't risk it now. But when he goes to the woods, he is absolutely fine and returns when called. He is a crafty little monkey, he gets up to mischief and just gives us that 'I love you ' look. I am learning to feed him a little less than Charlie, because he tends to be sick and he is that little bit smaller.
Charlie is just a dream. He just does as he is told. I don't have any problems with him at all. He is definitely a daddies dog. Goes completely bonkers when he comes home from work. He is just gorgeous.
Having said that, I have to say that Alfie is mine, he just loves me to pieces and I do him. I am the one who sorts out his little problems and I am the one he listens to.
We have finally sorted out our garden. I have had a fence put round my shrubbery and trellis put round my raised beds, so perhaps my lillies wil get a chance to grow again. It was a fight, they dug them up and I put them back and they dug them up again. I didn't get mad I got even.
As you know, I have had a few problems, not so much with them but with learning about them. I am learning and so are they, and I can honestly say that I could not be without them now. They have become our family and our extended family have grown to adore them so much.
Maybe this will help some other people taking on a Springer. They are a special dog. They are very springy and they do get up to mischief. But they are the best and they do learn, as you do with them. I love mine.
Thanks and take care.

Hi Robin

Yes it is very common problem with Springer's.

You need to keep the ears very short on the inside and out. I clip mine with a number 10 blade.
If your doggie likes to swim, when he comes out of the water towel dry his/her ears.

While he is relaxing lift his/her ears. Clean ears once a week, a very good cleaner for ear infections is Aural check with your vet first.

Hope this helps.
