What brings me to this site? We lost our beloved Springer on Friday 18th June 2010 and he is now in doggie heaven, aged 12. Our Sage was a rescue dog (although not from SSR). He joined our family 7 years ago and we sit here today with a huge void in our lives. My husband and I and two teenage lads feel like we have lost our "own" shadows.

We knew little about about Sage as he was an unchipped stray, but from that first walk with him, or should I say we were pulled along by him, our hearts melted. He was approximately 5 years of age and to say he was "untrained" was an understatement. Sage was just fabulous; friendly, loyal, funny, cheeky, loving, naughty.. the list could go on. Did we spoil him? You bet! As I sit here now, I long to hear the clip clop of his paws on the wooden floor coming to my side, then the familiar hop on the sofa next to me, ready to have a doze and to hear him snore just once more.

So, as much as Sage is so dreadfully missed, we now cannot imagine not having a Springer in our lives.... very much hoping to have a 5th family member back very soon. We wouldn't even contemplate anything other than a rescue dog. Continue the marvellous work that you do.

We Love Springers :-) RIP Sage

Dear auntie Barbara.
I have just come back from four smashing weeks in France with my mum and dad and their caravan. We've looked at chateaus on The Loire (the miserable devils wouldn't let me in though) and did the sad bit amongst all those graveyards on The Somme. On the brighter side I've been chasing pigeons on the camp site in sunny norhern France. In spite of being up to date with Frontline etc my dad got good at removing ticks! The kind lady at the french vets said it is a good idea to use a tick collar as well as drugs. I went to the vets today because I've got an itchy ear but that's all because chasing a ball all day is still my favourite occupation after pruning hedges and chewing sticks.
Any way, all for now,
Bruno

The Henderson Family

With great respect I have to respond to your signing.

I have rescued many a Springer from this rescue. I have delt with the gentleman.
And yes Gentleman is the right name for him. He is one of the most caring men I have ever spoken to. He allways puts his Rescued Doggies first. I believe he is right not to home a doggie with young children. I adopted a rescue Springer from another rescue 12 years ago.
With-in two hours of being in my home she bit me so bad I had to go to hospital.

Luckly I had no children a bite like that would have done a lot of damage to a child.

A lot of doggies go into Rescue with no history. A lot of rescue's do not think about that. and home doggies just to make money, this rescue cares. I had twelve happy years with the doggie that bit me , but to the day she died she would still bite any Human or other doggie. If she had gone any were else she would not have had a chance.

So Please Springer Rescue stand by your Policy. It's safer for the doggies and humans.

Regards
Sally.

Message of reply to The Henderson Family.

We apologise for any hurt or offense we may have caused. However, we do stand by our policy of not rehoming any of our Rescue Springers with families who have very young children. The gentleman you spoke with does dispute the comments you made of him, regarding his attitude and what he was supposed to have said.

Unfortunately, you cannot please everyone all of the time.

We have and will always remain to do our very best for any Doggie that comes into our care.

We wish you well with your lovely Springers.

Regards,
Wendy Griffiths (SSR)

Hi where do I start as I am so mad and disgusted with the gentleman at this rescue. I got in touch with this springer spaniel rescue at the beginning of May 2010 regarding rehoming a springer spaniel. I emailed yourselves all about my family and what we were like. I explained that we had 3 children one of which was 1 year old and that my other 2 children were older. I also went to explain that we were a family that had thought long and hard about getting a springer and had not rushed into. Myself and my husband had been brought up with springers and that if we could rehome one that it would never be left on its own and would have plenty of exercise and be much loved. I phoned to explain that we were not in a rush to get a springer and that we would wait as long as it takes to get the right springer for us and that we were the right family for the springer.

We phoned to see if anyone had chance to have a look at our email and were told becase we had a 1 year old we couldn't even register a application form. I was hurt and shocked. I asked the gentleman I spoke to if he would like to come and meet us before he makes a judgement. I was told by him he is a volunteer and doesnt get paid and he can do what he wants and because we have a one old child the answer was no and there were no other reasons. They are his dogs and he does what he wants with them. Myself and my family were gutted but on the other hand a poor springer had missed out on a lovely home.

Thank god that the other Springer spaniel rescues were not like this one. We got in touch with other springer spaniel rescues who were fantastic and took the time meet us as a family. They were really please with us and have been fantastic. They have been with us every step of the way.

The god news is because the other Springer Spaniel rescues took the time to meet us we now have 2 springers liver and white, they are lush and much loved. They have been with us a couple of weeks now. They spend their days with my husband in RAF Waddington. They have a hour walk on a morning and 2 hours out for a walk every evening without fail. They have also started gun dog training. They are amazing and we love them so much. Oh yes i forgot to say we have a one old so that makes us bad according to the gentleman at this rescue! Well i can assure you we spend our time with our boys (Springers) as a family and no I dont leave my one year old alone with my dogs as i am a responsible mother.

I or my husband have never in all our lifes been spoken to as this gentlenman spoke to us. We were spoken to as if we were the scum of the earth wanting a dog with children. Myself and my husband have served in the armed forces and never been disrespected in this manner. Makes you wonder why you serve this country when we have peolpe like this in it. I am sure that many other people will have got their springers from here and they have been great. Please do not let this letter put you off approaching this rescue for a spinger as there is many out there that needs a loving home even if its a home with young children.

I ask this rescue please have the respect to meet a person or a family before you decide they cant have a springer. Your never know it might be a perfect home for a springer at later time if no springers are suitable at present. I apologise to all other members of staff who are doing amazing job. I look forward to a reply.

Hi

We have 2 ESS and they are the best pets anyone can ask for so full of energy and personality, we've had our ups and downs but I wouldnt be without them. Currently in the middle of buying another house so that my babies have a bigger garden to play in and would definately interested in homing a rescue springie! It makes me sad that people have to give them up but also not surprised, and would reccomend to anyone research your breed indepth before you buy them.

Anyway just to say what a wonderful job your doing and hopefully I will be in touch soon about an adoption.

It will be 2 years in November that I had to give up my beautiful Bailey for rehoming. I trust that she's in a really good home now as I've never heard any more from her new owners or from SSR.

I just wanted to say happy second birthday to her for Wednesday 16th June, wherever you are now may you have a lovely day and I hope you get spoilt rotten by your mum n dad.

Puppy cuddles to you, I think about you all the time and wish there was some way I could have kept you and made you happy....
