Dear Glyn Wendy and Barbara
We have just spent our first night with Charlie and he was excellent. As you know it was a long journey back to where we live and he settled in the car very very well. We stopped for a long drink and Charlie had a good run around the little woods area. Luckily I brought a flask of cold water with me for him. (Just in case). He slept and came and asked for a cuddle on the way just for a bit of assurance. When he got in the house, he just didn't stop bouncing and wagging his tail. My son adores him, and we are going on the web cam today to let our grandchildren see him. I will keep you informed and send you photos of him as soon as we can get him to keep still long enough! I love him and more importantly, Graham loves him too. They are now virtually inseperable, and I love you all for bringing us together. Thank you thank you thank you for our little Charlie. XXX

Dear Glyn and Wendy
Just to let you know we have rehomed a 5 month old black and white male springer. He came from a local lady, the family had a 2 year child and couldn't cope with new puppy boisterousness, hence he was put in his cage almost all day, they just didn't realise how demanding puppies are especially springers. He was well looked after in other respects ie innoculations, worming etc He was like a torpedo first week even I wondered what he was on! from having a extremely good old dog to my new whirlwind I can't remember Bosley ever been like Oliver but hey they are all different. We have had him two weeks and he has settled down well, his recall is excellent for such a young puppy he loves his new friends and a dream to take out. He takes himself off to bed at l0 and gets up at 7am. Wasn't very clean at first but apart from couple of accidents my fault as I wasn't quick enough he is 100% better. He does have one vice his pupply biting is quite bad but has a lovely nature and we are working very hard on his manners particularly his biting and attacking feet! and leaping from sofa to sofa.
Otherwise all is good. Thank you for your support

Hello Glyn and Wendy
So good to see you are still carrying out this great work , and all the springers you have successfully rehomed.
We have Megan who you rehomed with us 7 years ago she is now 11 years old , still as lively and energetic as the day we collected her, although she had to have a cruciate repaired 2 years ago but recovered well and suffers arthritus in her back legs.
She is absolutely loving it with us, and we are absolutely loving her being here. You couldnt have made a more perfect match for us all. Although saying this she can be very difficult around other dogs and strangers.
No one is perfect though !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kind regards Glyn and Ella (Bristol)

can you tell me why springer spaniels are called english springers when they originated from spain,
Mary McKechnie24 Feb 2010 13:11 ^
Hello. I'm new to this website, and also new to having a springer spaniel. Our last dog, which we got when he was 2, was a JRT, who died in December after losing the use of legs. We decided that we didn't want another JRT, and were looking for something completely different, but not a puppy!!! How much different can you get?
We adopted Sam a month ago from the dog wardens - he was picked up somewhere in Teesside on the streets. We thought that he was 5 months old at the time, but the vet now thinks that he was just 4. At first we couldn't think how or why someone would or could lose a puppy, but after a few days, once he found his feet, we soon found out why!
He is a lovely dog, and full of bounce and energy, but as all puppies (and people) do, he forgets himself and uses his teeth when he gets really excited. Which is at least twice a day! As he practically drags me across the road to see any young child or pram/pushchair, I'm guessing that he was in a family. This suits us well, as we are a family of 6 - the 2 eldest are away at work and uni, and the 2 youngest are at home, but when we all get together, we make a lot of noise, and it doesn't faze him in the least. He's adopted one of the lads as his mate, which is fine, until he goes out, when Sam just sits at the top of the stairs waiting for him to come back. Which could be all day, if he's at work.
We're also having great fun getting him to eat dog food. We have a cat, and Sam wants to eat HIS food. Sam's very good at mealtimes, and usually goes to his bed when we eat. I usually feed him after we've eaten, but as his food smells different to ours, he refuses to eat it! Yesterday, I bought some fish-flavoured food, which he loves, and I've mixed his old variety of food with the new one, in the hope that he'll eat it. There's a lot of the old food, and when I bought it, the bag burst, cascading down onto the floor - Sam had a bellyful of food before I'd picked it all up! Perhaps that's why he doesn't like it anymore?!
I have two friends that I walk with at least 3 times a week. They have dogs, a lab and a border/lakeland terrier. There's also an alsation who occasionally joins us. Sam is slowly learning the etiquette of being the youngest dog in the pack. The terrier has him sussed after Sam pestered him so much to play that he turned round and snapped at him. He'd tried ignoring him too, but Sam wouldn't listen!! Being the oldest and the slowest he now just has to bare his teeth for Sam to leave him alone. In fact he gives him a very wide berth. The lab's a different matter. She's very lady-like and quite maternal and Sam follows her around learning from her. If she chases something, he does. If she picks up a stick, he looks for one to pick up too. He has gone for the same stick - she bared her teeth at him, growled and told him off. The Alsation is a different matter. She's not yet 2, and is still boisterous. Instead of the two of them playing and chasing each other though, Sam runs round and round her, barking louder and louder until she responds. She never bites him, but her mouth is so big......!
Whenever we meet other dogs, Sam gives them the same treatment. He runs round and round them, barking louder and louder, in smaller and smaller circles, with the result that the other dog, who was initially delighted to see him, gets more and more frightened and unsure of what's expected of it. Sam's so nimble and lithe, that although he's big, he's also very slippery............ There is ine dog that he is terrified of - an Irish water spaniel. The two of them met a couple of weeks ago, Sam ran up to the other spaniel, who was delighted to see him, barked loudly and scared Sam off!! He ran yelping across the field. Now all we need to do is persuade the other dogs to bark in the same way!!!
