To everybody that has left comments about the operation that my dog requires, i would like to inform you that the operation is not a necessity, we had it done on her first leg to see if it made any difference to her way of life but it didnt, we had to give total rest to her, and as everybody knows a spaniel hardly rests, which made it very difficult.

We didnt feel that we wanted to put her through this again as it would not effect her way of life what so ever, she has adapted to her problem from birth and she can run and keep up with our other dog. We got her from a person that was using her as a breeding machine and she had had 21 puppies in 2 years so you can guess the state she came to us in. We have given her the love and care she needed and now she is a different dog.

She isnt perfect but all she needs is that bit of extra love and attention that at this moment due to other things going on we cannot give her.

This message is for everyone at springer spaniel rescue. A BIG thank you from our doggies and ourselves for the joy you have brought us all. I hope you all sleep well EVERY night knowing the very special love you give to all in your care, and the happiness you share with those of us who foster and adopt. You are amazing people keep up the good work.

I really feel frustrated at the recent comments about springer spaniel rescue taking only perfect dogs. As a recent adopter from SSR we adopted a springer with teeth problems as a companion for our first springer. We were aware at the time of adoption that the lovely springer we met had a broken canine which would need attention from a vet. In addition he had other problems that luckily are becoming less as we offer him a stable and loving home.We undertook to take care of this new dog and the initial vet bills which we knew wouldnt be covered by insurance, nor does our vet offer any discounts for rescue animals. I hold Glyn in high admiration, he found us a lovely springer - not once but twice, and I know that I could ring him for advice if we were having problems we couldnt cope with.
Glyn didnt find us A perfect dog , he found us OUR perfect dog.
Kev -If you are insured and your dog needs another operation, surely it is better to have your vet do this under insurance rather than let your dog have the stress of finding itself in a new home and having to have a further operation. The new adoptive family would also have to pay for this operation as pet insurance is unlikely to cover the costs when a dog changes hands.
Unfortunately funds for running springer spaniel rescue are limited, it is a relatively small organisation and funds have to be allocated to help as many dogs as possible. This is not a perfect situation, they do their best with what they have. I dont think it is unreasonable to ask you to sort out a medical problem before offering a dog for adoption when you have insured your dog for necessary treatment.

just read the email from Kev re his dog having to have an operation before Springer Spaniel Rescue is willing to take her and I think it's a disgrace.I thought any animal rescue was there to take any animal, healthy or in need of medical care regardless.Makes you wonder why these people are in this business, doesnt it.This kind of respond from an animal rescue will only make some poeple take their animal to RSPCA or alike where more than likely a lot of these animals would be put to sleep.Hope these people can sleep tonight!

Message for Kev.

In response to your entry. The gentleman advised your wife to have the operation carried out by your own vet (you did inform us that your doggie was insured) and to save time on transfer of paperwork etc., it would be better that way and then your doggie could come into our care to be nursed and when fully recovered, appropriately rehomed. This still applies if you so wish.

I can assure you we do not just take 'perfect' doggies and find your comments extremley upsetting, knowing the worry and anxiety we have endured over many rescue doggies over the many years we have been in operation.

I am looking for a female spaniel for a companion for my springer spaniel bitch who is 14 months old. I would like a puppy if possible.

Hi
I'm lookoing to adopt a spaniel.
I have a cross collie rescue dog - have had her since January 08 and I think the time is maybe right to adopt another dog as I have room in my heart and home for 1 more.

I have previously owned a cross springer before but have been around them a lot during my life.
My little Gypsey loves spaniels - don't know why but she has a liking for spaniels and dalmations! LOL. I think it could be because they are the same colour as her! Only joking - I think a spaniel would be ideal as Gypsey is a lively, energetic dog and I would need a similar character to keep up with us on our romps.

in hope
Penny
